The Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) allows Prius to achieve and amzing fuel consumption fiqure for just 4.4L/100km*. The combination of a pretol engine and an electric motor allows you to use up to 50% less fuel than a similar sized petrol engine*. Reduced fuel consumption also meas dramatically lower emissions.
* Tested to ADR81/01 under controlled factory conditions compared to a similar sized car. Actual fuel consumption may vary depending on drving style & conditions.
Toyota Prius is powered by a petrol engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine not only drives the front wheels, it charges the battery which provides energy for the electric motor. A computer determines the optimum combination of petrol and electric power, so it only uses petrol when it needs to. And the most surprising thing is that the Prius drives like a normal car, yet it's much smoother and quieter.
Prius is powered by a 4 cylinder, 16 valve, double overhead cam, 1.5 litre VVT-i petrol engine and an electric motor. The two combine to deliver 82kW at 85km/h or higher and combined maximum torque of 478Nm at speeds up to 22km/h. (Maximum combined engine and hybrid battery output and torque constantly available withing a specified vehicle speed range [Toyota in-house testing]).
Hybrid Synergy Drive
The Hybrid Synergy Drive developed by Toyota integrates the desirable elements of a petrol engine and an electric motor. It uses the spontaneous high torque from the electric motor from rest for starting. For cruising in the high-speed range, it utilizes the efficient power of the petrol engine. The management system carefully selects the optimum combination of the petrol engine and electric motor in order to maximise fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
